Prayagraj DM Denies Rumors of Maha Kumbh Mela Extension; Event to Conclude on February 26
Prayagraj – Rumors have been circulating on social media that the Uttar Pradesh government and the district administration have decided to extend the Maha Kumbh Mela until March due to the massive crowd turnout. However, Prayagraj District Magistrate (DM) Ravindra Mandar has categorically denied these claims, stating that they are baseless. He clarified that the schedule of the Maha Kumbh Mela is determined based on auspicious timings and is pre-planned. The event will conclude as scheduled on February 26. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to ensure the smooth movement of devotees arriving for the event.
The DM further stated that all facilities and arrangements for the devotees are being managed under the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He urged people not to believe in any rumors, as there is no official proposal from the government or administration to extend the dates of the mela. The remaining days of the event will focus on ensuring a hassle-free experience for visitors, especially during their holy dip at the Sangam. Efforts are also being made to ensure that devotees can return to their destinations smoothly. He emphasized that traffic management is a top priority, and authorities are working to maintain a balance between the movement of pilgrims and the daily life of Prayagraj residents.
Prayag Sangam Railway Station Closed on Peak Days
Regarding the closure of railway stations, the DM clarified that no station has been shut down without prior notice. He dismissed such claims as mere rumors. He explained that the Prayag Sangam Railway Station in Daraganj has been closed on peak days, a practice followed in previous events as well. Since the station is located close to the mela area, it has been permanently closed to prevent overcrowding. However, all other railway stations in the city remain operational, facilitating the movement of large numbers of passengers.
The DM also highlighted that this is a historic occasion for the state government and district administration, and all activities are being conducted smoothly under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. So far, no students appearing for board exams have missed their tests due to the mela. Authorities had previously advised students and parents to arrive at their examination centers well in advance, and this advice has been followed successfully. Additionally, both the CBSE and ICSE boards have decided that if any student misses an exam due to unavoidable circumstances, they will be given another opportunity to take it at the end of the examination schedule.
