A major accident occurred at the Mahakumbh on Tuesday during Mauni Amavasya. Late at night, a stampede broke out near Sangam Nose, injuring 90 devotees. During treatment, 30 of them succumbed to their injuries. The injured were admitted to SRN Hospital. Among the deceased, 25 have been identified, while the identities of five remain unknown.
A major accident occurred at the Mahakumbh on Wednesday during Mauni Amavasya. Late at night, a stampede broke out near Sangam Nose, injuring 90 devotees. All the injured were immediately taken to the hospital, where 30 people succumbed to their injuries. The remaining 60 are undergoing treatment. Among the 30 deceased, 25 have been identified, while efforts are being made to establish the identities of the remaining five. The injured have been admitted to SRN Hospital. The deceased include residents of Prayagraj, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Kolkata.
On Wednesday evening, Mela Officer Vijay Kiran Anand and DIG Vaibhav Krishna provided detailed information about the tragic incident at Sangam Nose during Mauni Amavasya. They explained that between 1 AM and 2 AM, a massive crowd built up on the Akhara Marg in the fair area. Due to the heavy pressure of the crowd, the barricades on the other side collapsed, leading to people rushing through and trampling over devotees who were waiting for the auspicious Brahma Muhurta to take a holy dip.
The administration took immediate relief and rescue measures, clearing the crowd and transporting approximately 90 injured individuals to the hospital via ambulances. Unfortunately, 30 devotees lost their lives. Among them, 25 have been identified, while the identification of the remaining victims is still pending.
Some of the deceased were from other states, including four from Karnataka, one from Assam, and one from Gujarat. Some injured individuals have been taken away by their families, while 36 others are receiving treatment at the local medical college. For the convenience of the devotees, the fair administration has issued a helpline number: 1920. The situation is currently under control.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath four times over the phone and provided instructions regarding assistance for the victims. Home Minister Amit Shah and Governor Anandiben Patel also spoke with the Chief Minister. Additionally, the Chief Minister held a high-level meeting at his residence in Lucknow, attended by the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, and ADG (Law and Order). Following the meeting, the Chief Minister stated that some devotees were injured after jumping over the barricading on Akhara Marg. Among them, a few are in serious condition and are currently receiving treatment.

Akhadas Postpone Amrit Snan
In light of this incident, the Akhadas have unanimously decided to postpone the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya. Akhada Parishad President Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri provided this information.
