The dispute, which had been ongoing on social media for two days between Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar and former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, turned violent on Sunday. Former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, along with his supporters, launched an attack on MLA Umesh Kumar’s camp office in Roorkee in a filmi style. Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion and his supporters opened indiscriminate fire with rifles and pistols at Umesh Kumar’s camp residence/office.
The atmosphere is tense, with forces deployed. People were seen running in panic during the daylight shootout. This incident, which took place at the office of MLA Umesh Kumar located near the Ganga Canal in Roorkee, has created a tense situation. The situation was such that the police had to step in to control it. Given the sensitivity of the incident, a large number of police forces have been deployed to manage the situation.
A verbal altercation had been ongoing on social media between Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar and former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion. On Saturday, Kunwar Pranav Singh posted offensive comments about MLA Umesh Kumar on his social media.
Allegations against MLA Umesh Kumar It is also alleged that late at night, MLA Umesh Kumar went live on his social media, hurling abuses. Afterward, he allegedly visited former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion’s office in Roorkee and his palace in Landhora, challenging him.
Champion’s response with gunfire The situation escalated on Sunday when, according to reports, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, accompanied by his supporters, arrived at MLA Umesh Kumar’s camp office. He allegedly engaged in verbal abuse and opened fire. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Umesh Kumar attempted to retaliate
It is reported that when Kunwar Pranav Singh arrived at Umesh Kumar’s residence, Umesh Kumar was not there. After a short while, the legislator Umesh Kumar arrived at his residence. It is alleged that he, along with his supporters, headed towards Kunwar Pranav’s residence. In a viral video, a pistol is visible in his hand. Meanwhile, a police officer is seen trying to control the situation.
SP stopped the legislator
As soon as the administration got information about a potential gang war-like situation between the two leaders, the SP (Superintendent of Police) of the area arrived at the scene and stopped Umesh Kumar. According to his personal secretary, Zubair Kazmi, more than 100 rounds of firing were fired, with about 70 shells recovered by the police.
Supporters gathered in large numbers
A forensic team also arrived at the scene and examined the bullet marks on the walls and glass. After the sudden firing at Umesh Kumar’s camp residence in Khanpur, his supporters gathered in large numbers, demanding the arrest of former MLA Champion. Meanwhile, Umesh Kumar’s staff has filed a complaint against Champion and others at the Civil Lines police station.
