Apple is once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons due to its AI tools. In a shocking incident, the company’s voice-to-text AI tool incorrectly transcribed a voicemail, displaying offensive and inappropriate messages to an elderly woman.
Apple AI’s Shocking Mistake
A 66-year-old woman, Louise Littlejohn from Dunfermline, Scotland, received a voicemail from Lookers Land Rover Garage in Motherwell. She had previously purchased a car from the dealership and was being invited to an event. However, Apple’s AI-powered voice-to-text feature severely misinterpreted the message, filling it with abusive language and even asking inappropriate questions about her personal life.

Initially, Louise thought the message was a scam. However, upon checking the zip code, she realized it was an actual voicemail from the dealership. She later found the error amusing but was also surprised at how such a mistake could happen.
Apple’s AI Struggles Continue
This is not the first time Apple has faced backlash due to AI failures. Recently, users reported that whenever they said the word “racist,” Apple’s speech-to-text system incorrectly transcribed it as “Trump.” Earlier in January, Apple had to shut down its AI-generated news summary feature after it sent misleading notifications to users.
Apple has acknowledged these AI issues and claims to be working on improvements to prevent such errors in the future. However, incidents like this continue to raise concerns about the reliability of AI-driven transcription services.
