Trump-Zelensky Clash: A heated debate erupted between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday (February 28) in the Oval Office of the White House. Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused Zelensky of not showing them due respect.
Zelensky’s Major Statement
Amid the controversy, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a significant statement, expressing his hope that his American counterpart, Donald Trump, would show greater support for Ukraine following their clash at the White House.
Zelensky’s Remarks
Speaking to Fox News, Zelensky stated, “Of course, the relations between the two countries can be fixed.” He emphasized that he does not want to lose the United States as a partner and expressed his desire for Trump to stand firmly by Ukraine’s side.
According to an AP report, Zelensky also reiterated that Ukraine would not engage in peace talks with Russia unless it received security guarantees against any future invasions.
“It Wasn’t Good”
Zelensky admitted that the argument with Trump was not beneficial for either side. He stressed that Trump needs to understand that Ukraine cannot change its stance toward Russia overnight.
Following the heated exchange, U.S.-Ukraine relations have reportedly hit a new low. A U.S. official told Reuters that the Ukrainian leader had been asked to leave the country.
Notably, the confrontation between Trump and Zelensky escalated just minutes after their Oval Office meeting began. Trump, in a firm and stern tone, told Zelensky: “Either you make a deal, or we’re out.”
