More than 100 police officers of Pakistan’s Punjab Police have been dismissed from service for refusing to perform their assigned security duties during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, officials said on Tuesday. The dismissed personnel were from various branches of the police force.
According to a Punjab Police official, over 100 officers and personnel were removed from their positions after being found absent from duty on multiple occasions during the Champions Trophy, while several others refused to carry out their assigned tasks.
He stated, “The police officers were assigned to provide security for teams traveling between Gaddafi Stadium and designated hotels in Lahore. However, they either remained absent or outright refused to take on their responsibilities.”
The official further mentioned that IGP Punjab Usman Anwar took note of the matter and ordered strict action against the concerned police personnel. He added, “There is no room for negligence when it comes to the security of an international tournament.”
While there has been no official statement on why the dismissed officers refused to perform their duties, several local media reports suggest that they felt overburdened due to long working hours.
