Delhi CM: Four days have passed since the Delhi Assembly election results were declared, but the BJP has yet to announce the name of the next Chief Minister. Different names are being claimed, but the BJP high command is known for taking decisions differently than the claims made, as seen in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. Therefore, suspense remains. However, according to inside information following a meeting between two senior leaders last night, the name may be announced anytime after February 16.
Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda held a meeting for about an hour on Tuesday night. According to sources, they discussed the formation of the government in Delhi and potential candidates for the CM position. It was decided that after February 16, a meeting of the BJP legislative party will be held, and the CM’s name will be announced thereafter.
Before his meeting with Amit Shah, JP Nadda also met with some Delhi legislators. According to sources, he sought their opinions about the CM’s name, but the legislators regarded it as a courtesy meeting.
Parvesh Verma, a female CM, or someone with an Eastern UP background?
Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, is currently at the top of the list. He met with Amit Shah and JP Nadda right after the election results were announced. Another name being discussed is Mohan Singh Bisht.
There are also reports that the BJP may opt for a female Chief Minister in Delhi, as there is currently no female CM in any BJP-ruled state. This could strengthen the candidacy of Shikha Rai, who defeated Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash seat. Other names in the mix include Poonam Sharma, the legislator from Wazirpur, and Neelam Pehalwan, the legislator from Najafgarh.
One thing that is clear is that the Chief Minister of Delhi will be chosen from the elected legislators, meaning no MPs or outsiders will be given the responsibility. It is also being speculated that the BJP might consider a CM with an Eastern UP background in view of the upcoming Bihar elections.
