Amanatullah Khan, the most prominent Muslim face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and often embroiled in controversies, is once again being sought by the police. Recently, Khan won the Okhla Assembly seat for the third consecutive time, and the police are continuously raiding various locations in search of his arrest. Meanwhile, Khan has written a letter to the Delhi Police, claiming that he is still in his constituency.
The Delhi Police has already conducted raids at more than a dozen locations. Following allegations of helping a criminal escape from police custody with the help of a crowd, multiple charges have been filed against the MLA. According to sources, raids have been carried out in Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan as part of the search. In addition to local intelligence, technical teams have also been involved. Since the incident, Amanatullah Khan’s phone has been continuously off.
Teams from Jamia Nagar Police Station, South East District, and the Crime Branch have been working to track him down, but despite more than 40 hours of effort, Khan remained out of the police’s reach. Amanatullah Khan has responded to the Delhi Police Commissioner in a letter, addressing the allegations against him and his disappearance.
According to Aam Aadmi Party, Amanatullah Khan stated in his letter, “I am in my constituency (Okhla), I have not fled anywhere. Some Delhi Police officials are trying to frame me in a false case. The person whom Delhi Police had come to arrest was already on bail. When he showed his documents, the police, in an attempt to cover up their mistake, started framing me in a false case.”
