The Champions Trophy tournament will begin on February 19. All teams are currently seen practicing hard for the tournament. Meanwhile, India and England are also playing an ODI series. However, England’s team has suffered a major blow ahead of the Champions Trophy tournament. Additionally, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans might also receive some bad news.
In fact, England’s young batsman Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy. This confirmation has come from England’s captain, Jos Buttler. However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has not yet announced his replacement.
Bad news for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans as well
This news is not only a blow to the England team but also to the fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB had purchased Jacob Bethell for ₹2.60 crore for the upcoming IPL, but now his participation in IPL 2025 seems doubtful. Jacob Bethell had played in the first ODI against India, where he delivered an impressive performance. He scored a brilliant half-century and took a wicket while bowling. However, he got injured during the match and was unable to play in the second ODI.
Not playing in the Champions Trophy
After missing the second ODI against India, England’s captain Jos Buttler announced that Bethell would not be playing in the Champions Trophy. It’s important to note that until February 11, 2025, the ICC allowed teams to make changes to their Champions Trophy squads. Therefore, England will need to announce Bethell’s replacement by tomorrow. It’s being speculated that all-rounder Sam Curran might be given a chance in place of Bethell, as he has been performing exceptionally well in the T20 International league.
