Bhopal: In a major decision, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced the renaming of 54 villages in Dewas district. This move comes in response to public demand, particularly for changing village names that have Arabic or Urdu origins.
Public Demand Leads to Village Renaming

For several years, locals in Dewas had been demanding a change in village names to reflect cultural and historical sentiments. During his visit to Pipalrawan, BJP District President Rai Singh Sendhav submitted a formal proposal to CM Mohan Yadav, which was immediately approved. The CM directed the Revenue Minister and the District Collector to implement the name changes.
Which Villages Will Get New Names?
Villages across multiple tehsils, including Hatpipliya, Dewas, Sonkatch, Tonkkhurd, Bagli, Khategaon, Satwas, Udaynagar, Kannod, and Kantafod, are set to be renamed.
Here are some of the key changes:
Muradpur → Murlipur
Haiderpur → Hirapur
Shamshabad → Shyampur
Ismail Khedi → Ishwarpur
Islam Nagar → Ishwar Nagar
Jalal Khedi → Shivgarh
Pir Padaliya → Pawan Padaliya
Chandgarh → Chandragarh
Islampura Mundla → Rampura Mundla
Mohammadpur → Mohanpur
Aziz Khedi → Ajit Khedi
Ali Pur → Rampur
Nabi Pur → Nayapura
Mirzapur → Meerapur
Akbarpur → Ambikapur
Sikandar Khedi → Shivkhedi
Fatehpur Kheda → Vijaypur Kheda
Rehmanpura → Hanumanpura
Sandalpur → Chandanpur
Masanpura → Madanpura

Implementation Process Begins
Following the CM’s directive, the renaming process has been initiated, and official notifications are expected soon. The decision aligns with the government’s efforts to rename places based on historical and cultural significance.
