New Delhi: England’s captain Jos Buttler praised Indian opener Abhishek Sharma for his explosive knock of 135 runs off 54 balls in the fifth T20 International, calling it a perfect example of ‘clean hitting.’ Buttler also mentioned that when a player gets into rhythm, such performances are expected.
In the post-match press conference, Buttler said, “We are certainly very disappointed with the result. India batted brilliantly. I think the credit goes to Abhishek Sharma. His innings is one of the best examples of ‘clean hitting.’ We always consider what we can do and how we can control it, but there are some days when you have to give credit to your opponent. I believe he played outstandingly.”
Butler said, “I don’t think ‘stunned’ is the right word. When a player gets into rhythm, this is the kind of performance they put up. You must have seen his performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, which earned him a spot in the Indian team. Except for the fifth match, we gave a good challenge in every match. We won the match in Rajkot. As we gain more experience, we become more committed to our style.”
Abhishek completed his century in 37 balls, which is the second-fastest century by an Indian in this format. He hit 13 sixes in his innings, setting a new Indian record. His brilliant performance helped India win the match by 150 runs, securing the series 4–1.
