Prayagraj: The political turmoil over the stampede at Maha Kumbh 2025 on Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh has intensified. The issue has also been raised in Parliament. Amid this, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Jaya Bachchan has stirred controversy with her latest remarks, calling Kumbh’s water the most polluted and accusing the government of mismanagement.

Jaya Bachchan’s Controversial Statement
While speaking to journalists in Parliament, Jaya Bachchan said,
“Right now, the Jal Shakti Department is discussing water pollution in the House. Where is the most polluted water at this moment? It is in Kumbh. The bodies of those who died in the stampede were thrown into the river, making the water even more contaminated. The real issues are being ignored.”

Questioning Government’s Claims
The SP MP also questioned the government’s data on the number of devotees attending the Maha Kumbh and accused officials of exaggerating figures. She said,
“The government is lying about millions of people visiting Kumbh. How can such a large number of people gather there at any given time?”

Criticism of VIP Treatment
Jaya Bachchan also criticized the VIP culture at Kumbh, highlighting the disparity in facilities. She remarked,
“VIPs visit Kumbh, take a dip, and receive special treatment. Their pictures are published everywhere. But what about the poor and common people? They receive no assistance or facilities.”
Her remarks have sparked political outrage, with many accusing her of disrespecting religious sentiments. Meanwhile, opposition parties continue to demand an immediate discussion in Parliament over the alleged mismanagement at Maha Kumbh. On Mauni Amavasya, a massive stampede occurred, resulting in several deaths and injuries. However, the government has dismissed claims of negligence, stating that arrangements were in place to manage the crowd.
