Retirement ceremonies are usually formal events, but Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a one-of-a-kind farewell procession that resembled a grand wedding celebration. The Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) of Shahpur, JP Guha, was given a send-off like no other, drawing large crowds eager to witness the spectacle.

Late in the evening, a ceremonial procession was taken out from the Shahpur Municipal Council office in honor of CMO JP Guha’s retirement. He and his wife were seated in a decorated horse-drawn carriage, much like a groom and bride on their wedding day.

In a unique tribute, he and his wife were dressed like a newlywed couple for the farewell.
A horse-drawn buggy was arranged after the farewell party, and he was given a send-off just like a bride and groom’s farewell ritual.

Adding to the uniqueness of the event, the horse-drawn carriage was driven by Virendra Tiwari, the husband of Municipal Council President Sadhana Tiwari. Spectators were left amazed by this extraordinary farewell, capturing the moment on their mobile phones and sharing it widely on social media.

The main streets of Shahpur turned into a celebration ground.
After the retirement party, CMO JP Guha and his wife were taken on a procession through the town in their wedding-themed carriage.
Youngsters and children danced to DJ beats, joyfully bidding farewell to their beloved CMO.
