On the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday, a stampede broke out at the Sangam Ghat. Reports suggest that several devotees have lost their lives in the incident. More than 40 ambulances are transporting the injured to hospitals for treatment. The administration has not yet officially confirmed the number of casualties.
During the Mauni Amavasya bathing at Sangam Noze Ghat, a major stampede occurred, leading to a tragic incident. By 7:30 AM, several ambulances had arrived at Colvin Hospital, but the administration has not yet officially confirmed the number of casualties. Over 200 devotees are currently receiving treatment.
The cries of the victims’ family members created an atmosphere of chaos from Sangam to the central hospital of Mahakumbh. Ambulance sirens echoed throughout the night. It is reported that the accident occurred due to barricades blocking the path of an uncontrollable crowd. A large security force has been deployed at the site. Meanwhile, the bathing ritual continues.
The incident occurred between 1 to 2 AM. The relatives of the deceased, who reached the mortuary, stated that a large number of people were moving towards Sangam Nose for the holy bath. They were walking between pole numbers 11 to 17 when suddenly a massive surge of the crowd came rushing from behind at high speed.

CM Yogi Urges Pilgrims Not to Visit Sangam
After the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to the pilgrims not to go to Sangam. CM Yogi stated that devotees should bathe at the ghats nearest to them along the Ganga and avoid going to Sangam Nose. Multiple ghats have been designated for bathing, and pilgrims can use any of them. He urged everyone to follow the administration’s instructions and cooperate in maintaining order. He also advised against paying attention to any rumors.
