In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government has announced the cancellation of visas for all Pakistani nationals starting from Sunday, 27th April. This decision came after the tragic attack that claimed 26 lives, including many tourists. The government’s move has led to emotional farewells at the Attari Border, where Pakistani nationals who were in India on short-term visas, such as for family visits, were forced to return home.
Several individuals, including Sarita, a Pakistani teenager, were visibly upset as they could not travel with their Indian relatives. Sarita shared her distress, saying, “My mother is Indian, and they are not allowing her to travel with us back to Pakistan.” Sarita and her family had come to India for a relative’s wedding after nine years but were unable to stay any longer due to the visa restrictions.
Other Pakistani nationals, some of whom had come to India to attend family events like weddings, were also forced to cut their trips short. Many expressed regret over their inability to reunite with relatives after years of separation. One individual, from Jaisalmer, shared that after 36 years, his relatives from Pakistan were visiting him, but the sudden cancellation of their visas meant that they had no time to meet their family.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Arif, a resident of Delhi, who was at the Attari Border to see off his Pakistani relatives, condemned the terrorist attack. He stated, “Terrorists have committed a heinous crime, and they should be hanged publicly.”
Pakistanis, including Jama Raj from Peshawar, also voiced their anger and frustration at the attack and the ongoing tensions, with some demanding strong actions against those responsible for such tragedies.
As the Attari Border saw long queues of cars and emotional scenes, the growing tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack have only deepened. The Indian government’s move to revoke Pakistani nationals’ visas signals a tough stance in response to increasing terrorist activities in the region.
