In light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, where a Pakistan connection has emerged, India decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. In response, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced strong opinions, asserting that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have never been in favor of the treaty. He described the agreement as an unfair document for the region.
Speaking on the suspension, Abdullah remarked, “The Indian government has taken concrete steps after the attack. As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, we have never supported the Indus Water Treaty. We have always considered it an unjust document for the people of our region.”
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted the actions of his government post-attack, noting that he had sent Cabinet Ministers across various cities to bolster security among Kashmiri students and business communities. These visits are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of Jammu and Kashmir’s residents, coordinating efforts with state governments to ensure the security of the people.
