Pope Francis’ condition worsened on Saturday, as he continued to suffer from prolonged asthma-related breathing issues, making it difficult for him to breathe. The Vatican stated that Francis has been hospitalized for a week due to a lung infection, and tests revealed that he is also experiencing anemia.

Francis (88) was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 for treatment following bronchitis. On Tuesday, doctors diagnosed pneumonia in both of his lungs, along with a polymicrobial infection in his respiratory tract. Medical professionals have stated that his condition is very serious and that he is not out of danger in any way.
Doctors have warned that the main threat facing Francis is the onset of sepsis, a severe bloodstream infection. However, his medical team reported that as of Friday, there were no signs of sepsis, and the medications he has been taking are showing effects.
Due to increased breathing difficulties, doctors had to administer high-flow oxygen. Additionally, tests showed a low platelet count, making a blood transfusion necessary. The Vatican had announced two days ago that Francis would not be able to lead prayers for visitors on Sunday. His condition has been deteriorating for the past two weeks, preventing him from attending prayers.
