In Delhi, the beginning of Rekha Raj’s tenure has brought immense joy to her family. Rekha Gupta’s husband, son, and mother-in-law have all expressed great happiness. Her son stated that his mother has carved out a place for herself in politics through her own efforts. Meanwhile, her mother-in-law, proud of her daughter-in-law’s success, said that Rekha has a habit of working hard and will handle everything well.

Rekha Gupta has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, marking a historic moment for the city and its residents. In a grand ceremony at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Gupta. This event has brought immense joy to women, activists, and families across Delhi.
Rekha Gupta, a first-time legislator from the Shalimar Bagh constituency representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the significant responsibilities ahead. She emphasized her commitment to addressing challenges such as pollution and infrastructure development in the capital.
Her family shared their pride and happiness on this occasion. Her husband, Manish Gupta, expressed disbelief and joy, stating, “We are extremely proud and happy. We understand the responsibility. We had to pinch ourselves to believe it. This is our good fortune.” Her son, Nikunj Gupta, highlighted her journey, noting, “My mother is a true leader. She started from scratch, beginning with the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). We are extremely happy that she has carved out a place for herself in politics on her own.” Her mother-in-law, Meera Gupta, praised her dedication, saying, “She has a habit of working hard. She will manage everything. We are all very happy.”
At 50, Rekha Gupta becomes Delhi’s ninth and fourth female Chief Minister, following in the footsteps of leaders like Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. She is also the fourth BJP leader to hold this position in Delhi, after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj. Notably, she is currently the only female Chief Minister in a BJP-ruled state. This victory marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 27 years, ending a decade-long tenure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The BJP’s win in Delhi is seen as a significant boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially after the party’s previous challenges in national elections. The party secured 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi assembly, while AAP won 22 seats.
Rekha Gupta’s political journey began as a student leader at Delhi University in 1992. She is recognized for her initiatives focused on the welfare of women and children, as well as her support for underprivileged female students.
As she assumes office, Chief Minister Gupta faces significant tasks, including tackling air and river pollution and improving infrastructure in the Indian capital. Her leadership is anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to Delhi’s governance and development.
