Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the world at the Global AI Summit, highlighting both the benefits and risks of AI, as well as ways to tackle its challenges. He emphasized that India is ready to share its experiences with the world.
Currently in France for the Global AI Summit, PM Modi spoke from Paris on Tuesday about the advantages of AI. He acknowledged concerns about job losses due to AI, but pointed out that history shows that new technologies create new opportunities. The summit, attended by heads of state from various countries, focused on the growing influence of AI and the potential opportunities and threats it brings. People around the world are worried that AI will lead to large-scale job losses. PM Modi made an effort to explain to the global forum that new technologies lead to new job opportunities, not just job losses.
Addressing the summit in Paris, PM Modi sought to dispel the ongoing doubts about new technologies. He strongly supported AI and said that while there are concerns about AI causing job losses, history shows that new technologies have also created new employment and job opportunities. Speaking at the AI Action Summit at the Grand Palais, PM Modi gave a simple example to explain AI’s potential: “If you upload your medical report to an AI app, it can explain in simple terms what it means for your health. But if you ask the same app to create an image of someone writing with their left hand, it is likely to generate a picture of a right-handed person.”
PM Modi also stated that India has the largest AI talent pool in the world and is ready to share its experiences and capabilities to ensure a better future for AI. He emphasized that no single entity holds the key to our collective future and shared goals.
As AI development progresses, various concerns are rising, particularly about the impact on the workforce and the potential for widespread job losses. PM Modi aimed to address these concerns and provide reassurance.
He also expressed gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron for inviting him to co-chair the AI Summit. PM Modi noted that AI is developing at an unprecedented pace, with its deployment process also accelerating, and cross-border dependencies growing. In light of this, he called for collective global efforts to enhance governance, shared values, and trust to address the challenges AI presents.
