Delhi Police on Monday registered an FIR against Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan for allegedly leading an attack on a police team in Jamia Nagar.

Amanatullah Khan, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Delhi’s Okhla constituency, is facing escalating legal challenges. The Delhi Police have initiated a joint operation to apprehend Khan, with teams from the Jamia Nagar police station, the South East District, and the Crime Branch conducting raids. His arrest appears imminent.
On Monday, an FIR was registered against Khan for allegedly aiding a proclaimed offender (PO) in evading arrest in a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and for obstructing official duties. The police have also invoked sections related to rioting, citing that Khan gathered a crowd and attempted to incite unrest. Specifically, Section 191(2) of the BNS Act has been applied, which pertains to unlawful assembly with a common objective leading to an offense. Several of these charges are non-bailable.
According to a senior police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, an FIR has been filed against Khan and his supporters for preventing public servants from performing their duties. This incident occurred in the Jamia Nagar area when the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch attempted to arrest Shahbaz Khan, wanted in an attempted murder case. Supporters of the AAP MLA allegedly confronted the police, allowing Shahbaz to escape.
Sources indicate that Amanatullah Khan was present at the scene during the confrontation, facilitating the accused’s escape. In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, Khan secured the Okhla seat for the third consecutive time, defeating BJP’s Manish Chaudhary by 23,639 votes. Khan received 88,392 votes, while Chaudhary garnered 65,304 votes.
